*Formula one drivers communicate with team via radio

I bet I could sew a button and drive.

I tend to stop talking to concentrate when I navigate a ridiculous 4 lane roundabout with traffic lights every 4 car lengths. Otherwise driving is easy, as is talking.

Well, yeah there are some situations like that... but for cruising down a highway or around town, really?

It's better than the ones that think they can do it but are oblivious to everything around them and merge on the highway at 50 because they're on the phone. I don't see a problem, they're don't think they can talk and drive, don't force it, they're probably right.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but kudos to anyone that intends to limit distractions, in this day and age of distracted driving. As we're all aware, everyone else on the road is a terrible driver. Hearing that someone is endeavoring to concentrate harder while driving makes me happy.

Yeah in most situations I'm either chatting or making myself look strange by singing along to breaking benjamin. It helps concentration on long motorway trips if anything, my concentration starts to lapse if I just stare ahead and sit silently.

Yeah I'm all for reducing distractions but talking to someone on the phone handsfree via Bluetooth or another person in the car isn't that big of a deal for me.

Not for me either. Still, hearing that someone else doesn't want to do it makes me happy. That's one person that's definitely trying to not be a terrible driver. Now we just gotta help the rest of them...

Why not take her word for it? People are different. For example, some people tell me they can talk on a cell phone without having it cause them to be a lousy driver. Maybe they're talking out their asses, maybe they're telling the truth, but I know I can't drive for shit while talking on a cell phone, even though I have never had any problem at all driving while talking to somebody who's actually in the car with me.

I can talk and poodle along just fine. But I am under no impression that I can drive and talk at the same time. My faculties are very much handicapped by talking and not actively scanning the road ahead and behind.

If I'm focusing hard on driving, I'll turn the radio off.

I dunno. I'm new to driving stick, and driving in the city takes a lot more attention than it rightly should. I find I have to do more actual thinking about what I'm doing and planning ahead. Frankly I'm grateful the Lada doesn't have a working radio, because I don't need any more distractions right now. As I get adjusted to things, it is definitely becoming easier, and I'm starting to be able to look around more at things not as relevant to driving.
Driving does take experience, and it's not an everyday (or enjoyable) thing to some people, and it may occupy more of their concentration capacity than it does for us more experienced. That said, there are people who struggle to walk and chew gum at the same time...

As an aside, I'm not always the best at reciprocal conversations, and basically have to completely stop what I'm doing if I want to get anything out of it. I think I'm a bit of a narcissist because typically I don't care enough about what other people are saying to bother paying attention...
